Dubai will officially host the 12th World Chamber Congress in 2021 ,this is after Kenya lost its bid to host the Congress early this year .The bid attracted countries like Ethiopia ,Jordan ,Oman ,Iran ,Kenya and Dubai with an expectation that the congress be held in either Africa or the Middle East.
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) acting chief executive officer George Kiondo in a statement said that Kenya lost its bid to Dubai on accounts of the number of votes garnered by Dubai pointing to the possibility that African countries voted less for Kenya and that Dubai could have lobbied more support than Kenya did.
With the aim of the congress being to allow participants to benefit from networking opportunities, the congress is held on rotational basis after every two years. The congress brings together high-profile government officials, global trade bodies and chambers.
Kenya launched its bid in Sydney, Australia last year spearheaded by the then Chair of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, Kiprono Kittony. Kenya’s bid dealt a major blow after the African Chamber leaders decided to settle on only one bidder from the continent.
A live presentation was made in china by the lobbying committee on April 10th and a subsequent final presentation on the 24th of April to the World Chamber of Commerce jury.
The congress has been held before in Canada, France, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea ,South Africa Turkey and Qatar with Sao Paulo ,Brazil hosting the 2019 congress.
