If you have attended a live band performance and didn’t end up screaming the artist’s name while finishing song sentences, I hate to bust your bubble but it was probably a waste of energy. Meet Crystal Asige. I won’t lie, her live band performance is the first I’ve attended and boy was I mind blown. My expectations were met and the bar was probably set too high, I just hope the next artists will be able to meet the standards, otherwise I’ll just be disappointed, hopping from one live band performance to another looking for that Crystal “fire”.
Signed to Sol Generation record label, Crystal is referred to as Sol generation’s first Lady. Aka moto ya makasi. The song extravaganza debuted in May 2019, was released in order to properly introduce the artists signed under the label. Crystal is among those starring in the song. Alongside singing, she is also an exceptional song writer and takes to writing for other recording artists too.
Crystal’s fame stretches beyond the local borders into the international music scene. She released her first album in 2014 named Karumba that got so much accolade. Her single “pulled under “ from the album climbed to the number one spot on a UK based chart in 2016! She travels with her band Chemi Chemi Live, which is known to give audiences exorbitant performances.
She was diagnosed with glaucoma as a teenager, a condition that left her visually impaired. This however did not deter her from achieving her dreams and going beyond. In fact, it propelled her to be the icon she is and become an inspiration to many. She is now a speaker and a Visually Impaired Persons( VIP) ambassador. You can catch her on her YouTube channel called, Blind Girl Manenos. This is where she shares aspects of her daily life as a visually impaired girl. She recently got her own TV show on TV47 called The Ability Show due to her “ability project” at Open Institute, where she is a programme manager.
Her latest single, “lenga” just dropped two weeks ago on YouTube! You can’t miss out on that one. You will literally have to apologize for not having a glimpse of that song.
