New Dawn for Kenya-Carribean Trade as KNCCI Cements New Partnership with BCCI
A historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was witnessed between Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), giving rise to new and exciting trade cooperation between Kenya and Barbados.
The MoU was signed by KNCCI President Mr. Richard Ngatia and BCCI President Mr. Anthony Branker on the afternoon of Wednesday 6th October 2021 at the Hilton Barbados Resort in Bridgetown. The two Chamber Presidents were among key business leaders who participated in the Kenya-Barbados high-level Business Forum in Bridgetown. The Forum convened key government and private sector leaders from Kenya and Barbados for bilateral discussions towards boosting trade volumes between the two countries and coincides with H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta State’s visit to Barbados.
Through the MOU signed, KNCCI and BCCI will respectively facilitate the Kenya and Barbados business communities to network and exchange information and trade opportunities with the view to generating new trade partnerships. The MOU will be followed by the establishment of a Joint Business Council that will steer its implementation and cooperation.
The ceremony was graced by the key private sector and government leaders from both Kenya and Barbados. Present among them was the Cabinet Secretary for the Kenya Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Hon. Betty Maina, High Commissioner of Barbados in Kenya Amb. Alex McDonald and the Minister for International Business and Industry in Barbados Hon. Ronald Toppin. Other institutions present in the Forum were the Central Banks for Kenya and Barbados, Invest Barbados, Kenya Investment Authority, Export Barbados, Kenya Private Sector Alliance, Barbados Private Sector Association, Safaricom Plc, Equity Group, KCB Bank Plc, Kwara Limited, and the Kenya Association of Manufacturers among others.
